So, the world lost Gary Gygax a couple days ago. I'm a big geek, a big roleplaying DnD loving geek. For those of you who don't know, Gary co-invented Dungeons and Dragons and spawned a massive hobby that had a huge impact on pop culture beyond its pen and paper roots. Someone commented the other day that if life were fair, then Gygax would live in an ivory mansion attended by willing servants.

Fair or not, weird or not, I can't help but feel a little sad at the passing of someone I truly admired. When I was a kid, I dreamed of meeting him and growing up to work for him in the magical kingdom that made adventures where you could do anything. I know thousands of others felt the same way. I fully intend to kill several PCs on Sunday in his honour.

Ironically, he was attacked as a crypto-satanist in the prime of life, but he wanted to leave the world with this bit:

"Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven." Matthew 5:16

Thank you Gary, for making my life better. Thank you God, for giving us Gary Gygax.
